Runnymede St Edward’s Catholic Primary School is situated within the Parish of St Paul and St Timothy’s, and we are proud of the relationship we share with our local parish. However, unlike many Catholic schools, Runnymede does not serve a defined group of feeder parishes or a traditional parish catchment area. Our children therefore come to us from many different parishes across the City of Liverpool, creating a wonderfully rich and diverse Catholic community.

At the heart of our wider Catholic links is our particularly strong relationship with Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. The Cathedral holds a very special place in the life of our school and provides our children with opportunities to experience the richness of our Catholic faith within the mother church of our Archdiocese.

Throughout their time at Runnymede, children have opportunities to visit and worship at the Cathedral, and it provides a magnificent setting for some of the most important moments in our school year, including our annual Prize Giving celebration. These experiences help our children to understand that they belong to something much greater than their individual school or parish: they are part of the wider Catholic family of Liverpool and the universal Church.

Our Cathedral links also enrich the cultural and spiritual life of our school. Through our relationships with the Cathedral community and our wider musical and liturgical experiences, our children encounter outstanding examples of worship, sacred music, service and Catholic tradition. These opportunities create memories that remain with our pupils long after they leave Runnymede.

Although our families may worship in different parishes across the city, they are united at Runnymede by a shared Catholic identity and mission. Our close relationship with the Metropolitan Cathedral beautifully reflects this: many parishes, many communities, but one family of faith.

In the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice, we encourage every child to recognise their place within that family and to go out into the world with faith, compassion and courage, always remembering our school mission: “Have courage, the good seed will grow.”
